The first time I had gammon steaks (as ham steaks are called in the UK) I was quite perplexed. This was way back when I was a student and lived in halls of residence where dinner was included.
Ham and pineapple plus eggs and chips? It was definitely new to me but I quickly grew to love this simple dish. Gammon steaks are relatively inexpensive and are delicious cooked in the Air Fryer!
If you feel like a ham dinner without cooking a whole ham then this super-quick tasty gammon recipe is the solution! It is such great brunch dish to have on a lazy weekend or if you are busy and want speedy lunch. Ham is not just for Christmas ; )
AIR FRYER HAM STEAKS GROCERY LIST
I used my Cosori Air Fryer to test this recipe – Air Fryers are all a little bit different so you might need to adjust the cooking time slightly, if you use a different model to mine. Add 2-3 minutes to the cooking time until you are happy. An Instant Read Thermometer is the best way to determine optimum cooking time.
- Gammon steaks / Ham steaks – what’s the difference? Gammon steaks are uncooked whereas ham steaks are pre-cooked. Once gammon is cooked it becomes ham. So, for those in the back, uncooked ham steaks are called gammon steaks. Phew.
- Honey, mustard and olive oil for the glaze
- Pineapple rings (optional) to serve
- Eggs (optional) to serve
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER HAM STEAK
Full measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page. Please take a look at the steps and video before attempting this recipe!
Prepare the glaze by mixing olive oil, mustard and honey. Pat the ham steaks (or gammon steaks) dry with paper towels and brush with the glaze on both sides. If you are cooking pineapple rings then brush them with the glaze as well.
Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 375°F (190°C). Place the steaks and pineapple rings in the air fryer basket and cook for 4-5 minutes for gammon steaks and 3-4 minutes for ham steaks.
Flip the steaks and pineapple over and brush with the glaze once more. If you are making eggs you can mist two silicone molds (or mini pie tins) with cooking spray and add them to the air fryer on top of the ham. Cook the eggs until the whites are set and yolks are still a bit runny.
Cook for a further 4-5 minutes or until gammon steaks register 145°F/ 63°C and 3-4 minutes for pre-cooked ham steaks 140°F/ 60°C.
Serve with fried eggs, pineapple and chips (which you can also cook in the air fryer). Absolutely delicious!
RECIPE TIPS
• Use an instant read thermometer (like a Thermapen) to check the temperature in the center of the steaks for best results. The thickness of the steaks and your Air Fryer model will affect cooking time.
• I also love serving these ham steaks with my Air Fryer Mac and Cheese 🙂

Notes
- Gammon steaks / Ham steaks – what’s the difference? Gammon steaks are uncooked whereas ham steaks are pre-cooked. Once gammon is cooked it becomes ham. So, for those in the back, uncooked ham steaks are called gammon steaks. Ham steaks cook quicker as you are basically reheating them.
