Slow Cooker Recipes Collection

Set it, forget it and come home to dinner – this is my collection of slow cooker recipes on Supergolden Bakes. You will find chicken, beef, lamb and pork, stews and casseroles, curries, pasta, soups, fakeaway favorites, roasts and even bread and desserts, all tested in my own kitchen.

The slow cooker is the gadget I have relied on the longest. It turns inexpensive cuts into meltingly tender meals, it costs very little to run and it does the work while you get on with your day.

New to slow cooking? Start with the four recipes readers come back to most – creamy Marry Me Chicken, a hearty lamb casserole, beef stew with fluffy dumplings and a creamy chicken pasta that cooks in one pot.

Slow Cooker Cooking Tips

  • Brown the meat first: a few minutes in a hot pan adds color and a much deeper flavor to stews, casseroles and roasts. Skip it on busy days – the recipe will still work.
  • Go easy on the liquid: very little evaporates in a slow cooker, so you need less stock than you would on the stovetop or in the oven.
  • Keep the lid on: every peek lets the heat escape and adds to the cooking time.
  • Low or high: as a rough guide, one hour on high equals about two hours on low. Tougher cuts are at their most tender cooked on low.
  • Do not overfill: aim for a pot that is between half and two-thirds full so everything cooks evenly. A good-sized slow cooker makes family meals and batch cooking much easier.
  • Thicken at the end: stir in a cornstarch (cornflour) slurry for the last 30 minutes, or cook with the lid off, if the sauce is thinner than you like.
  • Add dairy and fresh herbs last: cream, yogurt and soft herbs go in at the end so they stay fresh and do not split.
  • Use a thermometer for roasts: an instant read thermometer takes the guesswork out – slow cookers vary from brand to brand, so go by internal temperature, not the clock.
