Hey! I am so happy you have stopped by. My name is Lucy Parissi and I am the London–based food blogger and photographer behind Supergolden Bakes. This is my happy place where I combine my great love of food with my passion for photography.
I grew up in Athens, Greece, where I learned from a very young age that food is fundamental to a happy, healthy life. Ingredients were always fresh, as my mother made her way to the local grocery store or market to pick them out on an almost daily basis. The Greek Recipes I grew up with were simple and traditional but always full of flavour.
I moved from Athens to the UK to study Graphic Design when I was 17 and very quickly my culinary horizons opened up to cuisines from around the world. I now call London my home, sharing a Victorian cluttered house with my (Canadian) husband, my two children Anya and Sam and our two (Cypriot) rescue dogs Brutus and Rust.
To this day, nothing makes me happier that preparing and sharing food with family, friends and all of you dear blog readers. Ultimately, Supergolden Bakes is about good food, fine drinks and the very best company – I hope you find something on the site that you like.
Why Supergolden Bakes?
When I started my blog, it was supposed to be all about the baking. I had grandiose dreams of being on the Great British Bake Off, even auditioning for the show early on in its run. But as I started sharing my recipes, it became pretty obvious that one cannot live solely on cakes, pastries and desserts. I quickly expanded my blog repertoire to include our favourite family dishes, drinks AND bakes.
What You’ll Find on Supergolden Bakes
Above all I believe in unfussy food that’s packed with flavour. I take inspiration from cuisines around the world as well as the traditional Greek recipes I grew up with.
As a busy mom I try to simplify recipes so that they can be easy and quick to prepare. I often rely on my favourite kitchen gadget – the Instant Pot! – or my slow cooker and you will find plenty of recipes that can be made in a pressure cooker or the CrockPot.
I am an omnivore, trying to eat seasonally and to use the best possible ingredients. I believe that balance is key so as well as plenty of meat, fish and poultry recipes you will find many popular vegetarian and vegan recipes as well.
My love of baking is still very much evident in the plentiful indulgent desserts, layer cakes, cookies and patisserie. I still like to challenge myself with tricky bakes like macarons or croissants on occasion!
Cocktails are another passion, ever since my husband gifted me a cocktail shaker and martini glasses several years ago. I don’t think there has ever been a gift that has seen so much use 😉 I love classic cocktails but also to get experimental too – there’s a growing collection of drinks for every occasion.
Wherever possible, I like to include extensive step-by-step guides and video tutorials so that you will be able to recreate my recipes successfully whether you are a seasoned or a novice cook.
Slimming Recipes
Before I started my blog in 2012 I managed to lose all my baby weight from having my son and then some! After working on the blog for a couple of years, and experiencing some health issues which made it harder to exercise, I noticed the weight creeping back on slowly but steadily.
In January 2019 I decided to join my local Slimming World group (read about my weight loss journey here) and I was delighted to discover a plan that is both sustainable and designed for a foodie like myself. I have managed to lose over 20 pounds since joining and am very happy with my progress, rediscovering my love of yoga in the process.
Slimming Recipes are not that different from the food I used to eat every day. With very minor modifications I can still enjoy the curries, pasta dishes and comfort foods I loved. I have started creating new diet-friendly recipes and adding instructions to many of my existing recipes.
Beyond blogging
Although this blog started as nothing more than a hobby in 2012, it slowly morphed into a full-time job. In early 2016 I finally phased out my freelance design work to concentrate all my energies on Supergolden Bakes.
Apart from the blog, I also contribute recipes, videos and photography to AO Life Blog, Brit+Co, Fab Flour and many others. I also work as a food photographer on books, magazines and on location. My recipes and photography have been featured in many well-known food websites and in print.
Most of of the food photography on this blog is licensed via StockFood.
