Pomegranates are considered symbols of abundance, fortune and fertility. In Greece where I grew up a pomegranate smashed on your threshold on New Year’s Day will bring luck and happiness for the whole year.

I can’t vouch whether that is true… but just to be on the safe side maybe we should drink a couple of these Pomegranate Martinis and save staining the floor?

I originally made this pomegranate martini using muddled seeds – this is time consuming however. Much easier to use one of the pomegranate juice options available – ideally a pure juice without added sugar.

You will also need gin or vodka, Cointreau or another orange liqueur, orange and lime juice.

HOW TO MAKE A POMEGRANATE MARTINI

Place your glass in the freezer to chill for 10 minutes. I opted for my favourite “Nick and Nora” style cocktail glass (LSA Borough Martini Glass).

Measure all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker (I used my Mason Jar shaker) and shake hard for 30 seconds.

Have a taste to check if you need to make any adjustments. Add more lime juice if you prefer a sharper taste or a bit more juice for a sweeter cocktail. Strain into your chilled glass. Garnish with an orange twist and enjoy!
