If you love eating salmon then you will be completely WOWED with Air Fryer Salmon! Crispy skin and tender, flaky flesh cooked to perfection in just a few minutes – absolutely worth the price of an Air Fryer!

I love making salmon to have for a quick lunch and now that I have tried cooking salmon in my air fryer I will never look back. It’s phenomenally good, especially if you find cooking fish a little tricky.

And if you are just now discovering the joys of Air Frying make sure to check out my Air Fryer Roast Beef, Yorkshire Puddings, Blueberry Muffins and so much more!

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL NEED

I used my Cosori Air Fryer to test this recipe. You can use a silicone, paper or foil as a liner if you like but it’s entirely optional.

• Salmon Fillets: I used skin-on farmed salmon fillets. It’s important to use fillets of the same size and thickness so that they cook evenly. Use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to trim them in needed.

• Olive oil: You must brush or mist the salmon with the oil on both sides to make sure it doesn’t stick onto the air fryer basket.

• Seasoning / Spice rub: You can use ANY spice rub you like! I used Cajun seasoning, mixed herbs and a little sweet paprika plus salt and pepper.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER SALMON

Full measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page. Please take a look at the steps and video before attempting this recipe!

Preheat your Air Fryer for 5 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Pat the salmon fillets dry and trim them so that they are all the same size. Brush them with olive oil on both sides. Season liberally.

seasoning salmon fillets

Place the salmon fillets onto the Air Fryer basket, spaced slightly apart. Don’t crowd too many fillets at once, cook in batches if needed.

Cook for 5 minutes at 385°F (195°C) and check – they fillets should be crisp on the outside but still a tiny bit pink in the middle. The cooking time will depend on the size and thickness of your salmon as well as the brand of your air fryer. I would suggest you check your fillets after 4-5 minutes and cook up to 7-9 minutes.

Remove from the air fryer and let them rest on a plate for a couple of minutes. Serve with your favorite sides.

RECIPE TIPS & FAQs

HOW TO TELL IF SALMON IS COOKED PERFECTLY It is very easy to overcook salmon and if you do it will become dry and tasteless. Salmon that’s cooked for too long feels firm to the touch, is orange all the way through and has white bits on the flesh. Those white bits are albumin and while safe to eat it is a sure sign the salmon has been cooked for too long.

Perfectly cooked salmon will flake easily when prodded and the middle will be a blush color rather than opaque orange.

Slightly overcooked salmon – see the albumin on the side? Still tasty but cooked for just a minute too long.

USE AN INSTANT READ THERMOMETER If you have a food thermometer (like this Thermapen) then check your salmon is cooker to 120°F (48°C) if you are using wild salmon and 125°F (51°C) if you are using farmed salmon. Remember the fish will continue to cook a tiny bit after you have taken it out of the air fryer.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS Salmon is such a great source of protein, low in carbs and high in good fats. Take a look at some sides that are good with air fried salmon below:

  • Grilled corn avocado salad
  • Rice with Broad Beans and Dill
  • Greek potato salad
  • Lebanese Tabbouleh salad
  • Spicy Peanut Noodles

Notes

I found that the salmon fillets can cook in as quickly as four minutes. The first time you make air fryer salmon you may have to do a test on one fillet to find the optimum cooking time. Bear in mind this will also depend on the size and thickness of the salmon, whether it is wild or farmed and on the type of Air Fryer model you use.
