Are you looking for the ultimate foodie gift? You will find something for every taste among Selfridges Christmas hampers selection. Post in collaboration with Selfridges

Selfridges Italian Christmas hamper: a sweet feast of panettone, classic amaretti, cantuccini, panforte bites and a bottle of Selfridges Prosecco.

I remember the first time I visited Selfridges like it was yesterday. I was in total awe – literally a kid in a candy store – and that sensation always hits me anew every time I visit their Food Hall. It’s not the make up or the exquisite clothes or handbags that draw me like moth to a flame to their doors, but the veritable cornucopia of marvellous food on display.

I always make sure to make at least one pilgrimage to Selfridges every Christmas to pick up a few select gifts from the Food Hall for friends and family (total lie, they are usually all for me and my excuse is that they are for the blog).

A few years ago I was invited to the rooftop restaurant atop Selfridges for a showcase of their selection of Christmas hampers. It was then that I experienced first hand the delicious food on offer within – every product selected with care from a range of artisan producers in the UK and around the world.

Little boxes wrapped in Selfridges yellow ribbon are definitely among my favourite things

This year I was thrilled to be offered the chance to review one of the Selfridges food hampers and I have to tell you that settling on one was a tough choice! The hampers start at £60 and reach a rather astonishing £10K for The connoisseur’s hamper.

After much dithering, I chose the rather more modest Italian Christmas hamper which retails for £110. And nestled inside the hamper, beautifully packaged and wrapped with an iconic yellow ribbon, were panettone, classic amaretti, cantuccini, panforte bites and a bottle of Selfridges Prosecco. Basically a festive Italian feast worthy of even my legendary sweet tooth.

I had to taste everything in order to give you my honest opinion and just to make sure I had to taste it at least twice 😉 I have to tell you that, hand to heart, this was this most delicious panettone I have ever tasted. Fluffy as a cloud, rich yet light and large enough to serve 6-8 people, or one very greedy me.

A breakfast of Panettone French toast and Prosecco using the goodies from Selfridges Italian Christmas hamper

I have never been a huge fan of panforte but I am prepared to entirely revise my former impression after sampling the moreish panforte bites. My children helped me ‘review’ the canticcini (funnily enough they picked only those dipped in chocolate) and the plan was to save the Prosecco and amaretti for Christmas. A plan which has failed utterly, as the Prosecco was quickly dispatched last night and I *may* have eaten a few of the amaretti for breakfast.

Speaking of breakfast, I have found that panettone makes the most insanely delicious French toast, or Italian toast in this case. In the extremely unlikely event you have some leftover, make sure to make some and thank me when you do. Top with citrus or persimmons, a scattering of pomegranate seeds and a generous drizzle of maple syrup or honey.

The Italian Christmas hamper would be a perfect gift for a foodie family member or friend, just make sure to pick someone willing to share the contents with you. You can find a large selection of food hampers, and more, at Selfridges.

The Selfridges Italian Christmas hamper is a veritable sweet feast! Turn any leftover pannetone into delicious French (or Italian!) toast for breakfast.

Your photos are always so beautiful and consistently make me feel hungry. If there was a Selfridges nearby, I’d be straight round there now. As it is I might just be putting that Italian hamper on my Christmas list 🙂

whoa these are such awesome gifts!! Definitely need to slip this idea to a few people’s head this Christmas (heehee) Your idea of a panettone french toast is absolutely brilliant. I often see these cakes during the holidays but I had no idea how to use these things! Now I know. 🙂

You know, I haven’t been to Selfridge’s Food Hall but if this glimpse of your fantastic hamper is anything to go by I really must on my next visit to London. Did you find out what makes the 10k hamper so special? Did your finger pause ever so briefly over that selection button?? And what a sumptuous and colour-dashed use of stale panettone. Such cute little persimmon stars!

I always go every Christmas and pick something from the Food Hall and a new ornament for the tree from the Christmas shop. It’s like a tradition – started from when I used to work near Selfridges
