The perfect Apple Martini

Apple Martini
I have a very warm spot in my cocktail-loving heart for Apple Martinis. When done well they are a thing of beauty. When done badly… well… lets just not go there. I have toyed with various ways to make the perfect Apple Martini at home having tasted some lovely ones at a couple of London cocktail hot spots. I didn’t get the recipe right until very recently though. The magic ingredient? Manzana Verde (full disclosure, that’s an affiliate link)– a green apple liqueur that tastes like apple and not some horrible synthetic concoction that hasn’t been within miles of any fruit.

The other excellent addition to this recipe has been Cawston Press apple juice – the closest I have gotten to actual juiced apple. I used their Apple and Rhubarb juice in this recipe but the Cloudy Apple one is equally fantastic. If you can’t get your hands on this brand you can try Coldpress Pink Lady apple juice or even juice a couple of Pink Ladies yourself (the fruit, not Stockard Channing and her mates).

Ingredients
Serves 1
80ml | 1/3 cup | 2.7fl oz Cawston Press Apple & Rhubarb juice
60ml | 1/4 cup | 2fl oz Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka
30ml | 1/8 | 1fl oz Briottet Manzana Verde
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp simple syrup (or light honey)
2-3 very fine apple slices (I used a mandoline) to decorate

Method

  1. Fill your martini glass with ice cubes and set aside.
  2. Put all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker and give them a good stir (especially if you use honey).
  3. Half fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  4. Discard the ice from the martini glass and strain the cocktail in it. Decorate with some very fine apple slices (optional).
