Can you Make Pancakes in an Air Fryer?

Heck yes you can! Air Fryer Pancakes are quick and easy to make and they cook perfectly in less than 10 minutes.

I have used a classic buttermilk pancake recipe to make air fried pancakes. They are so light and fluffy – perfect for stacking and serving with maple syrup and fruit.

You can also use a store-bought pancake batter mix if you prefer – but they are so easy to whip up that I always make them from scratch.

Fluffy Pancakes In Air Fryer

I used my Cosori Air Fryer to make this recipe. A set of small silicone molds are useful as they make perfectly round and evenly sized pancakes. A set of cookie scoops are great for mess-free batter distribution. Apart from these essential tools you will need

  • Flour: all purpose / plain flour
  • Baking powder, baking soda and salt
  • Sugar
  • Buttermilk: the secret to fluffy pancakes!
  • Melted butter
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER PANCAKES

  1. Combine the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
  2. Sift in the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet until the batter is smooth. Leave this to rest for 20 minutes.
  3. Mist the silicone molds with cooking spray or cake release. Make sure they are well greased. Add one small scoop of batter in each and place in the Air Fryer basket.

  1. Cook for 5 minutes at 350°F / 180°C – the tops should be slightly golden. Use tongs to invert the pancakes directly into the basket so that they are flipped over. Cook for a further 4 minutes or until golden.

RECIPE TIPS

  • Using buttermilk is a great way to make super-fluffy and light pancakes. The acid in the buttermilk reacts with the baking soda to release little bubbles that makes the batter rise. I have also used yogurt and sour cream with added lemon juice to make air fryer pancakes.
  • The air fryer allows for four pancakes to be cooked at one time (using molds) so you will have to cook them in batches. Do not stack the warm pancakes once out of the air fryer. Spread them on a wire rack otherwise the heat can make them soggy.Use a light hand when you fold the dry ingredients into the wet. If you overwork the batter your pancakes will become dense. The batter can be a little lumpy – once rested give it another stir.
  • Your first batch of air fried pancakes can take a little longer. The remaining batches might need slightly less time as the fryer will already be hot.
  • Air Fryers are fantastic and in my view essential! They are not however all created equal and sometimes the cooking time and temperature will need to be adjusted to suit your Air Fryer model. The good thing is you can open the drawer to have a look without ruining the pancakes!

Storing and reheating

Store leftover pancakes in a sealed container in the fridge for 2-3 days, reheating before serving. Or freeze, separated by parchment paper, for up to three months.

Reheat the pancakes for about 15-20 seconds in the air fryer or quickly pan fry to warm them up.
