This recipe for Air Fryer Greek Chicken is probably the most cooked dish this summer, in our household anyway. It is super quick and easy but yields amazing results!

Serve these juicy, golden chicken thighs with a traditional Greek salad, on a loaded gyros platter, wrapped in Greek pita bread, with smashed potatoes or however you like. It is freaking delicious, not to mention healthy.

Here’s What You’ll Need

Mix up a quick marinade, add your chicken thighs and air fry… this recipe could not be simpler! Apart from the air fryer, you will need:

  • Chicken thighs: boneless and skinless chicken thighs are not only cheaper than chicken breasts, they are also much more juicily tender and delicious.
  • The marinade is comprised simply of olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon zest, dried Greek oregano, garlic seasoning, paprika, salt and pepper.

How to Make Air Fryer Greek Chicken Thighs

MARINATE THE CHICKEN
  1. Combine all the ingredients for the marinade in a bowl. Add the chicken thighs and turn them over a few times using tongs so that they are coated in the marinade.
  2. Leave for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to overnight in the fridge.

AIR FRY
  1. Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 400°F / 200°C. Add the chicken thighs on a rack or directly in the air fryer in a single layer. You will need to cook in batches (or see recipe notes).
  2. Air fry for 7 minutes then flip them over and continue cooking for a further 6-7 minutes or until the chicken registers an internal temperature of about 170°F / 75°C on a meat thermometer.
  3. The chicken should be golden with slightly charred crispy edges but incredibly tender and juicy within. Rest the chicken for a couple of minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions

My favorite way to serve this chicken is as a sort of gyros platter – sliced and served with Greek salad, pita bread and plenty of tzatziki sauce. You can also serve it as in wraps using pita bread or tortilla wraps, with my Greek Orzo Salad, grilled corn and avocado salad or potato salad.

A plate of food on a table, perfectly complemented by a homemade tzatziki sauce recipe.
Can I use chicken breasts?

Both work well but chicken thighs stay juicier. Adjust the cooking time as needed if you are using skinless chicken breasts.

Do I need to marinate the chicken?

Marinating for at least 30 minutes helps infuse the chicken with flavor, but even a quick 15-minute rest improves taste.

How do you keep air fryer chicken from drying out?

Cook at a moderate temperature, avoid overcooking and flip halfway through. Check with a meat thermometer for best results – the safe temperature is 165°F (75°C).

Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sweet paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Zest of one lemon

For the Chicken

  • 12 chicken thighs (boneless and skinless)

Instructions

Marinate the chicken

  • Mix all the ingredients for the marinade in a lidded container. Add the chicken and use tongs to coat each piece with the marinade. Cover and chill for a minimum of 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.
2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp dried oregano, 2 tsp salt, 2 tsp sweet paprika, 2 tsp garlic granules, 1 tsp cumin, Zest of one lemon, 12 chicken thighs

Air Fry

  • Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 400°F / 200°C. Add the chicken thighs on a rack or directly in the air fryer in a single layer.
  • Air fry for 7 minutes then flip them over and continue cooking for a further 6-7 minutes or until the chicken registers an internal temperature of about 170°F  / 75°C on a meat thermometer.
  • The chicken should be golden with slightly charred crispy edges but incredibly tender and juicy within. Rest the chicken for a couple of minutes before serving.

Serve and Enjoy

  • My favorite way to serve this chicken is as a sort of gyros platter – sliced and served with Greek salad, pita bread and plenty of tzatziki sauce.

To serve as a Pita Wrap

  • Layer your flatbread with the tzatziki sauce, plenty of chicken gyros, thinly sliced tomatoes and onions. You can also add fried halloumi and/or some fries if you want the full experience!

Notes

  • Can I use chicken breasts? Chicken breasts can definitely benefit from the wonderful Greek marinade, but they can dry out in the air fryer. Keep an eye on them while cooking to make sure they are not overcooked.
  • Reheating Greek Chicken: Leftovers can be kept for a couple of days in the fridge (not that we have EVER had leftovers) and warmed in the air fryer for a couple of minutes at 350F / 180°C or until heated through before serving.
