It’s that time of year again… the time to take out your pen and paper and write a letter to Santa with your Christmas wish list. At least it is if you are ten and under. For us ‘adults’ it’s best to drop some heavy hints to loved ones or simply gift yourself your heart’s desire! 1. The King’s A Sticky End Sauvignon Blanc 2015 £16.99 Ocado or £12.99 for mixed 6 at Majestic. This delectable sweet wine is a fine way to end your festive meal – paired with pudding or even a cheese plate.
2. Gentleman’s Collection is a new wine brand featuring a charming Chardonnay and a handsome Cabernet Sauvignon. Though clearly aimed for the discerning ‘gentleman’ I see no reason to gift this easy drinking wine to anyone who enjoys a fine tipple. It is widely available at retails at around £8.
3. Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2014*, widely available from around £8 on offer. A deep red wine with ripe berry aromas and a touch of smoke, this is a concentrated wine with silky tannins. A big hit at a recent dinner party, this is one to savour and gift.
4. Franciacorta Brut Satèn DOCG – Castello Bonomi, £24.90 at Tannico.co.uk – essentially a Blanc de Blancs, made entirely of Chardonnay grapes and left to age in bottle for 36 months, this wine is floral, fruity with lovely lingering honey and brioche notes. The perfect way to toast the New Year or serve at the start of your dinner party.
5. Old Boys 21 years old Tawny, £22 at Oddbins. Packed with vanilla bean, toasted hazelnut, dried fruit and mocha goodness this is a lovely after dinner wine, pairing well with rich chocolate puddings or cheese.

2. Famous Grouse Mellow Gold is the latest addition to The Famous Family and has been crafted to deliver a subtly sweeter, mellow flavour. 3. Sweet potato spirits? Huh? Yes, truly the Sweet Potato Spirit Company mixes their passion for sweet potatoes with their craft of artisan distilling to come up with a selection of unusual liqueurs and spiced spirits.
