Did you know you can bake the most delicious brownies in your air fryer? It’s really easy and you will get awesome results. As my husband said “is there ANYTHING the air fryer can’t do?”.
The answer is “no” dear readers! I am constantly amazed by the versatility of my air fryer (check out this awesome Air Fryer Banana Bread!) – you can bet my oven is very jealous right now.
BEST-EVER BROWNIES IN YOUR AIR FRYER
The perfect brownie, in my humble opinion, has a thin, shiny, slightly chewy crust and a gooey fudgy middle. Achieving brownie perfection in the air fryer is easy provided you use the right recipe and tools.
The biggest challenge I faced when making air fryer brownies was finding a square brownie pan that fits in my Cosori Air Fryer basket.
I actually ordered three different types and none of them fit. Talk about frustrating! I could have easily baked my brownies in a round cake pan as an eight inch fits into the basket. So keep in mind you always have that option!
In the end I tested this recipe, multiple times, in a variety of different pans. My silicone air fryer liners proved good enough but required a longer baking time.
If you can find a metal pan that will fit your air fryer model that is the ideal option. I eventually found a square vintage baking pan that fit my air fryer exactly (it even had rounded corners).
Grocery List
This is a classic brownie recipe that’s slightly adjusted for the air fryer to compensate for using a smaller than average brownie pan.
- Chocolate chips: semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips work best. You can also use a good quality chocolate bar with around 50% cocoa content.
- Butter or margarine.
- Light brown sugar
- Large eggs
- Plain (all-purpose) flour
- Good quality dark cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- Vanilla bean paste or extract
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BROWNIES
Full measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page. Please take a look at the steps and video before attempting this recipe!
Add the chocolate and butter in a mixing bowl and microwave for 30 second bursts until the butter melts. Leave to stand for a couple of minutes then stir so that the chocolate melts completely. Set aside.
Use a balloon whisk to beat the sugar, vanilla and eggs in a separate bowl. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is frothy.
Stir in the melted chocolate mixture. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the bowl and stir until you have a smooth, glossy, thick batter with no dry pockets of flour.
Spoon the batter into a greased and lined 8 inch pan and level. Please note if your pan is smaller you will need to adjust the baking time.
Preheat the air fryer at 330°F (165°C). Bake the brownies for 25 minutes. Take a look at the brownies – they should have a smooth shiny top and feel set at the edges. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).
Air fryers vary greatly in their wattage so you might need to adjust the cooking time accordingly. If you use a silicone pan you will likely need to add 5-10 minutes to the baking time. If your brownies are not quite baked, cook for a further five minutes. Take the pan out of the air fryer and cool the brownies before slicing.
RECIPE TIPS
- If you slice the brownies while they are still warm they will crumble and be harder to cut. Be patient and allow them to cool down before slicing.
- Store brownies in an airtight container for 4-5 days. Reheat them for a few seconds in the microwave before maximum yumminess!
- You can also freeze the brownies, in portions, for up to three months. They never, ever make it to the freezer in our house 🙂
- You can top the brownies with extra chocolate chips or nuts and so on but they will be harder to slice into neat squares.
- You can melt the butter and chocolate in a double boiler instead of the microwave. Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (not allowing the bowl to be in direct contact with the water). Stir until the chocolate melts.
- You can open the air fryer to check the brownies as often as you like. It will not cause them to collapse or affect them in a bad way.
