My son is the garlic bread fiend in the family. He loves it SO MUCH, to the exclusion of everything else on the dinner table. Which might explain why I made it only on special occasions… after all I didn’t want him filling up on bread alone.
Fast forward a few years and my baby boy is now a hungry hungry teenager (HOW?!) who can polish off several pieces of garlic bread, plus a meal and dessert for good measure. So it’s finally long overdue that I share his favorite air fryer garlic bread recipe.
It is so easy that you can prepare it and have it ready in under ten minutes. Seriously addictive and seriously delicious, especially with pasta dishes or a steaming bowl of soup. Although I will admit I can happily eat a slice whatever time of day. Shhh!

AIR FRYER GARLIC BREAD INGREDIENTS
The beauty of garlic bread is you can customize it to suit your preferences. Make it as garlicky, buttery, cheesy and over the top as you dare! You will need:
- Bread: the best option is a white baguette but you can use sourdough bread, ciabatta, focaccia, or whatever you have handy.
- Softened butter — omit the salt if you use salted butter
- Olive oil (optional)
- Garlic – freshly minced garlic cloves (or see recipe notes)
- Parmesan cheese – freshly grated for best results
- Dried parsley and salt
- Mozzarella (for an extra cheesy option!)

How to Make Air Fryer Garlic Bread
Full measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page. Please take a look at the steps and video before attempting this recipe!
Combine the softened butter, minced garlic, olive oil, grated Parmesan, dried parsley and salt in a bowl.

Slice the bread into slices of equal thickness – not too thin as they will burn. Mist the bread slices with a little oil so they crisp up evenly. Turn the bread slices over and spread with the garlic butter – generously! – edge to edge.

Place the bread in the air fryer basket in a single layer, placed slightly apart. Air fry at 180°C (360°F) for 3-5 minutes or until the bread is crispy at the edges and the butter has melted. Serve immediately!

STORING AND FREEZING
You can store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to a day and reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes until the bread crisps up again. Better yet, place the buttered slices on a tray in a single layer and freeze. You can then pack them in a suitable container where they will keep for up to three months. To cook you can simply air fry garlic bread from frozen, adding a few minutes to the cooking time.
RECIPE NOTES & VARIATIONS
- Make an extra cheesy garlic bread: Top with shredded mozzarella just before the end of cooking and air fry until the cheese melts. Cool slightly before serving to avoid burning your mouth!
- Garlic bread is a great way to use up a bread loaf that’s gone slightly stale as toasting it in the air fryer with lashings of garlic butter will bring it back to life. Waste not and all that 🙂
- Air Fryers vary greatly between models and brands. You might need to adjust the cooking time and temperature to suit your particular one. Bear in mind that if you are making garlic bread in batches the second batch will cook a lot quicker as the air fryer will already be hot.
- Fresh garlic is a lot more potent than roasted garlic. If you like a more mellow flavor, you can roast the garlic first. To do this slice the ends off a whole garlic bulb. Place on a piece of kitchen foil, drizzle with olive oil and wrap tightly. Air fry at 180°C (360°F) for 5-10 minutes, or until the garlic is soft. Cool then squeeze the roasted garlic into a bowl to mix with butter.
- Made too much garlic butter? Wrap the butter in cling film and put in the freezer to chill. Slice into pats to serve with my air fryer steak recipe.
- Using fresh parsley – I avoid using fresh parsley as it tints the butter green!
