Air Fryer Apple Crumble is the perfect fall dessert. Tender caramelized apples topped with a crisp buttery crumble, flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of cream or custard – simply delicious!
Peel and dice the apples (I used Pink Lady) into even bite-sized pieces. Place in a saucepan with the butter, lemon juice, water, granulated sugar and spices. Cook over low heat, stirring, for 6–10 minutes or until the apples have softened slightly.
Stir in the cornstarch and heat through until the apple filling thickens. Transfer to a greased 8 or 9 inch pie dish – but please check the dish fits into your air fryer first!
1 tsp cornstarch
Place the flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Add cold cubed butter and rub between your fingertips until the mixture is crumbly and starts to stick together in small clumps.
1 cup + 2 tbsp (150g) flour, , 3 tbsp rolled oats, 2 pinches baking powder, ⅓ cup (75g) light brown sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon, pinch of salt, ½ cup (115g) cold unsalted butter
Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C). Cover the apples with the crumble topping and sprinkle with Demerara sugar. Air fry for 20 minutes, or until the crumble is golden and crisp and the apple filling starts bubbling through at the edges.
2 tbsp Demerara sugar
Cool slightly then spoon into bowls and serve warm with vanilla ice cream, cream or custard. So yummy!

Notes
FOR A VEGAN APPLE CRUMBLE: replace the butter with a good-quality plant based alternative, like a block vegan butter.
VARIATIONS: replace some of the apples in the filling with other fruit such as plums, pears or blackberries. You can also add chopped nuts such as pecans in the topping.
MAKE INDIVIDUAL SERVINGS: divide the filling between greased ramekins, add the topping and air fry for about 15 minutes or until golden.
CAN I MAKE THIS IN AN OVEN? You can bake the crumble in the oven, no problem! Cook for 40-45 minutes in a 350°F (180°C) preheated oven. Place the pie dish on a baking sheet in case the filling bubbles through.
