Did you know you can cook a PERFECT rotisserie chicken in your air fryer? It is the easiest and quickest way to cook a whole chicken and you will be blown away by how delicious it is!
1small - medium whole chicken(approx. 1.3lbs /1.5 kg)
Olive oil as needed
2tspdried Italian herbs
1tspsweet paprika
1tspgarlic powder
1tspcelery salt
1tspbrown sugar
Glaze (optional)
3tbsphoney
1tbspsoy sauce
Instructions
Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken
Drizzle the chicken with olive oil (or use a pastry brush) and rub with the spices on both sides.
Secure the chicken on the spit and tie the legs tightly with butcher string. You want the chicken to be able to rotate freely on the spit.
Place the spit in the air fryer and put a drip tray underneath. Cook for 40 minutes at 400°F (200°C), checking with a meat thermometer after 35 minutes. The chicken is cooked when it registers 167°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the breast, avoiding the bone.
If you like you can brush the chicken with the honey soy glaze during the last 5 minutes of cooking time.
Rest the chicken for 15 -20 minutes to allow for the juices to redistribute. Serve with roast potatoes or a green salad. Absolutely delicious!!
Rotisserie-style chicken an air fryer
If you don’t have an oven air fryer with a spit function you can still make delicious rotisserie-style chicken. Prepare the chicken as before by drizzling with oil and seasoning with the spice rub.
Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
Place the chicken breast side down in the air fryer basket and cook for 20 minutes at 355°F (180°C).
Use tongs to flip the chicken over so it is breast side up and cook for a further 20 minutes or until it registers 167°F (75°C) on an instant-read thermometer. A larger chicken can take up to 50 minutes while a smaller one can cook in just 35 minutes.
Baste the chicken breast with the honey-soy glaze a couple of times during the last 10 minutes of the cooking.
Rest the chicken before serving.

Notes
Use a meat thermometer to take the guesswork out of roasting chicken (or cooking any type of meat). Insert the thermometer probe into the thickest part of the chicken avoiding the bone. It should read at least 165°F or 74°C (this will rise slightly as the chicken rests).
Air fryers can vary depending on their size, model and wattage. Allow roughly between 12 - 15 minutes for each pound (450g) of weight.
Always REST your chicken after roasting to allow for the juices to relax and redistribute keeping your bird nice and juicy.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days and use in salads, sandwiches or to make soup.
