Mango, pineapple, turmeric and orange smoothie: this thirst-quenching and vitamin-packed smoothie is perfect for rehydrating after exercising. Recipe in collaboration with John Lewis, images courtesy of Charlie Richards.
My relationship with smoothies runs a bit hot and cold. I will make them practically daily some months and forget they exist the rest of the year.
Think this has a lot to do with what seasonal produce is available and also the time of year. So I was happy to be invited to a John Lewish smoothie making event to get some tips and inspiration.
The event was hosted at the Waitrose test kitchen and included a Q&A with Madeleine Shaw (pictured below). Madeleine is the epitome of fresh and glowing and her motto ‘eat better not less’ is certainly something we can all get behind!
After the Q&A we got our hands on the abundant fresh produce available to us to come up with original smoothie recipes. I was drawn to the fresh pineapple, mangoes and oranges – think I needed an injection of vitamins on that grim winter’s evening!
I blended them with coconut water, fresh mint, turmeric, ginger and chia seeds to create a really fresh and thirst-quenching smoothie.
After that it was over to photographer Charlie Richards and prop stylist Cynthia Blackett, who managed to style and photograph numerous smoothies for all the attendees. I must admit it was really hard for to not be in charge of the photography, but it was lovely chatting with Charlie and picking his brain (we have the same camera so I instantly felt a bond!).

This sounds like a fun event. Love the mango, pineapple smoothie combination. I’m kind of the same way about smoothies..go through periods when I make them and then don’t!

Wow! Quite a few gorgeous smoothies, including yours, came out from the John Lewis night. Too bad I wasn’t there to taste everything, so tempting.
