Hands up who wants comfort food right now? 🙋♀️ There is NOTHING more comforting that a big bowl of pasta tossed in a rich creamy sauce.
That cream pasta sauce is, of course, Alfredo sauce. Just a handful of ingredients but so tasty you will want to serve it with just about anything and everything.
Alfredo sauce goes particularly well with juicy tender shrimp and bacon… It is so quick, so freakin’ easy and so unbelievably DELICIOUS…
If you do a bit of multi-tasking – making the cream sauce while the pasta is cooking – then this easy pasta dish will be ready in under 15 minutes!
Shrimp Alfredo Ingredients
Here’s what you will need to make this recipe
• Bacon – you can use lardons (small cubes of smoked pancetta) or diced smoked streaky bacon
• Shrimp – I used raw shrimp (jumbo prawns in the UK). These are usually cheaper to buy frozen and they defrost really fast, simply soak them in tepid water until they thaw. Drain and pat dry before using
• Splash of white wine to deglaze the pan – this is optional you can use vermouth or chicken stock instead
• Garlic paste or fresh minced garlic
• Heavy cream (double cream)
• Freshly grated Parmesan – you can use packets of grated that are sold freshly grated but not the boxed kind which is too dry
• Fresh herbs such as basil or parsley to garnish – I only had fresh basil and it works really well
• Salt and freshly ground pepper plus lemon zest
• Fettuccine or tagliatelle dried or fresh pasta or any type of pasta you have available to serve
HOW TO MAKE CREAMY SHRIMP PASTA
Full measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page. Please take a look at the steps and video before attempting this recipe!
Cook your pasta – I used tagliatelle – in plenty of salted water according to pack instructions. Set a timer to cook it until al-dente. Drain well and set aside.
At the same time as the pasta is cooking… Heat a large pan and add the butter. Stir in the bacon once the butter melts and cook, stirring, for a couple of minutes until it starts to crisp up.
Add the shrimp and cook for a couple of minutes per side, until they turn pink. Use a slotted spoon to transfer everything to a bowl.
Add a splash of wine or stock to deglaze the pan and scrape any browned bits at the bottom. Stir in the garlic and cook for a couple of minutes until fragrant.
Add the cream and bring to a very low simmer (do not allow it to boil). You will see tiny bubbles appear at the edges of the pan.
Stir in the grated Parmesan until it melts into the sauce. Add half the chopped basil, taste and season with salt and pepper.
Add the prawns and bacon back into the pan and stir to combine.
Now add the cooked pasta, tossing to coat in the sauce. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Garnish with extra fresh basil, a little finely grated lemon zest, more Parmesan cheese and freshly cracked pepper.
Tips and FAQs
STORING Store any leftovers in the fridge. Reheat in a pan over low heat, adding a little milk if the sauce is too thick. Don’t allow the sauce to come to a boil as the cream might separate.
CAN I MAKE IT SLIMMING FRIENDLY? This recipe is unapologetically rich and creamy. You can replace the heavy cream with low-fat creme fraiche or quark cheese if you want to make it a bit lighter in calories. Use lean back bacon instead of streaky bacon.

I changed it up a little bit, and I added fresh sliced mushrooms and asparagus cut into about 1/2 inch pieces, and sauted that in the bacon grease after I cooked it. Then finished the recipe as directed and garnished with chopped parsley. It was amazing!!
