|Green Juice – my new favourite breakfast smoothie|
A is for… Anxiety
Anxiety has always been part of me but it has intensified as I have gotten older and has reached often unbearable levels this year. Stress feeds into anxiety and anxiety feeds on itself. This summer I would like to figure out a way to control it. Anyone have any useful tips?
B is for… Bread
I had to say goodbye to my sourdough starter during the kitchen remodel but attending a bread making masterclass with Éric Kayser to celebrate the launch of The Larousse Book of Bread has reignited my passion for artisan bread. Eric was so passionate (and his bread probably the best I have ever tasted) I literally returned home and lovingly mixed my new starter. The book has some fantastic recipes and clear instructions and is a must for passionate bakers. It is a shame that Éric’s energy and enthusiasm don’t really come through in the copy though.
C is for… Change
After several months of freelancing from home and enjoying the luxury of blogging pretty much whenever I wanted it’s all about to change. C is also for commuting and let me tell you I did not miss that one tiny little bit…. See also J is for… Job
D is for… Dog!
During my long stint of at-home freelancing I seriously entertained the idea of getting a dog (= spent hours looking at puppies online). This has been a dream of mine since I bullied my parents into adopting my one and only dog Misha when I was a teenager. After years of ‘can we get a dog?’, I have finally twisted my husband’s arm into submission but it seems that D is for… Dream, for the time being at least. I fell in love with UK Pinterest’s resident Cardigan Corgi at their party (would you look at that face!) but for now all I can do is daydream… See also J is for… Job

… or lack thereof. New job, early morning starts (have I mentioned I am not a morning person?) plus not enough hours in the day for doing everything I want to do. I am having a bucket of coffee daily.
F is for… Family
We reconnected with the Ryan clan (my husband’s side of the family) on a family holiday in Cancún organised by my indomitable sister-in-law Dee. Fourteen (!) of us travelled from around the globe (well, UK, US and Canada) to meet in Mexico for a week of sun, sea, unlimited cocktails (for the grown ups) and general hanging out. It was glorious.
G is for… Green Juice!
The breakfast smoothie of choice during our holiday. A blend of orange juice, pineapple, celery and spinach it tastes delicious and has miraculous hangover curing properties. In a Vitamix, blitz the juice of two oranges, 2 cubed slices of fresh pineapple, 1/2 celery stick, a handful of fresh spinach and 5 ice cubes. Sweeten with a little agave nectar if you prefer. H is for… Holiday
I think my children now think that family reunions in exotic locations are mandatory… Auntie Dee let’s make it Italy for 2016… See also is for… Family

I is for… Inspiration
I have been feeling lacking in inspiration lately. Maybe it is self-doubt or anxiety or all of the above but I have been testing and retesting recipes, shooting them and then rejecting the photos. I have been turning to Bloglovin and Pinterest for a jolt of creative energy and I am really looking forward to Food Blogger Connect in September. But nothing beats hanging out with Julia for drinks and a chat…
J is for… Job
I have started a new one of those ‘job thingies’. Being the ‘new girl’ in an office is not something I have missed… But I am curious to see where this takes me. Watch this space.
K is for… Kalms
Always in my handbag and they make absolutely no difference. See also A is for… Anxiety
L is for… Logitech
I was sent a Logitech Ultrathin Magnetic clip-on keyboard cover to review and it has become my new blogging ally – especially now that I am commuting again. This nifty keyboard clips on an iPad mini and transforming it into a dinky laptop. It also acts as both an iPad cover/case and reclining support stand. I was very thankful for that as it made watching movies on the plane and during the holiday that much easier. It took me a few goes to really get fast typing on the keyboard but once I was accustomed to the size and spacing of the keys it has now become reflex. I even wrote blogposts during the Mexico holiday which I suppose makes me an absolute geek. Highly recommended!

N is for… negativity
I am sure this is part and parcel of my generalised anxiety but negative thoughts are corrosive. Being a blogger means putting yourself ‘out there’ and for every positive comment and spike in traffic (or whatever) there’s are plenty of not-so-awesome negative reactions.
O is for… (home) office
It only took me seven years but I finally have my own home office space with a large desk (from Ikea) for all my vast amounts of clutter to migrate to. I love it and maybe one day it will be tidy. But don’t count on it.
P is for… Pinterest
When I was a teenager I asked my dad to put up foam boards over my desk so I could have a pin board to stick all my photographs, keepsakes and magazine cuttings on. This is still up at my parent’s house, albeit now mostly empty. I remember so clearly having an ‘A-HA!’ moment when discovered Pinterest and I really have no words for how much I love it. Pinterest UK recently celebrated its second birthday with a colourful fiesta atop their office rooftop. There were cocktails (yay!), crafts, incredible balloon art (!), Mexican nibbles and even a Mariachi band. I could not stay very long but I want to wish all the lovely fold at Pinterest UK a very happy birthday and here’s to many more!
Q is for… Questioning

R is for… Relaxing
I have decided I am not genetically build for that. Seriously.
S is for… Sam starting school in September
My baby boy is a baby no more… A monumental shift in family life and a new phase that I am not sure I am entirely ready for.
T is for… Television
I loved the first season of True Detective and have been curious about the second season. So far it is not gripping me… The second season of Halt and Catch Fire however is very good. And I have also been re-watching Mad Men from the beginning and am loving it more now than the first time around.
U is for… Ultimate Chocolate Cake
I have now made this cake something like 6 times in the past 3 months. It is really everything you would want in a chocolate cake.
V is for… Vitamix
Just as I was about to mourn the loss of my Vitamix Pro 750 (which had been loaned to me) a newer, slimmer and smaller Vitamix has taken its place. The Vitamix S Series is a bit less industrial in both size and power but it makes up for that in versatility and ease of use. A proper review and recipes will follow but let’s just say I have been enjoying taking a smoothie with me to work every day in the handy portable container (also used for blending). W is for… Wedding
My neighbour’s wedding on Saturday was one of the most intimate and touching I have ever attended. The potluck lunch at their house afterwards was definitely the most relaxed and best catered wedding reception I have been to. Congratulations Tara & Pete!!
