I have been feeling a little blue lately. A lot of it can be attributed to the sudden change in the weather from bright and warm(ish) to cold and gloomy. I always expect Winter with capital ‘W’ to arrive on Guy Fawkes – also happens to be my son’s birthday – and I am never wrong. Suddenly there’s a real bite in the air and I can be found bundled under several fleecy layers with a portable heater by my side. But the cold weather is also the perfect excuse to eat comfort food and bake lots – what else is there to do on a rainy weekend?
This week’s #CookBlogShare reflects the drop in temperature – lots of hearty recipes with more than a little Halloween/pumpkin love. In fact three out of the four highlighted recipes use veggies in baking and look tempting as hell into the bargain. I wish we could all get together and have an over-the-top blogger tea party. Hey, maybe when my new kitchen is finished (don’t hold your breath for 2014).
1. Parsnip and Pecan cake complete with runaway pecans and cashew frosting… from Kirsten of Pink Rose Bakery.
2. Mandy from Sneaky Veg has sneakily hidden pumpkin in her Soda Bread – this looks like just the thing to have alongside a large bowl of soup.
3. Lucy the Baking Queen has created lovely Ginger Friands an afternoon tea treat I would love to add to my baking repertoire.
4. Pumpkin again and don’t these cupcakes look completely irresistible? I just want to take huge bite out of that creamy frosting – thanks for linking Caroline of My Family Ties.
